For fans of: Wolfgang Gartner, Daft Punk, Justice (Huge, right? It’s for fans of good electro.)
Here’s another Mixtape Monday! Today’s mixtape is the debut EP by electro producer OVERWERK. OVERWERK (I slightly resent the stylized capitals,) is a 22 year old producer out of London, Ontario. His name comes from him being overworked, from his days in graphic design, and a homage to Kraftwerk, pioneers in the electronic genre.
If all electro albums were as polished as The Nth °, the world would be a better place. It’s a blend of electro, house, and has a bit of a dubstep influence mixed in as well. The first track, “The Nth°” starts off with a few notes that would have you believe it’s the introduction to a classical piece. Then, OVERWERK brings in gorgeous synth harmonies, and a Wolfgang Gartner-esque upper synth line, which all blend in to make a great first track. The album then fades into “Alive” which could have found its home on Daft Punk’s Tron Legacy. Then “Odyssey”, a grandiose electronic track that crescendoes into glory. Then the harder hitting electro house track, “Buzzin'”. After which follows the monster “Paradigm” featuring the vocals of Nick Nikon. A massive banger with catchy vocals just meant to sing along to, big synth chords, and intense tweaked electro wobbles, this is a track that is sure to be a hit anywhere it’s played. Then the last track, “Contact”. Take all the grand crescendoes of this album. And then the hard hitting deep synths, instrumental melodies, and orchestration. Then combine them – and you have a stunning conclusion, to a stunning album.
To top it all off, he’s giving his EP away for free for anyone that is a fan of his on Facebook. Check out The Nth ° – because if nothing else, it showcases the talent and range of this young, and very bright, producer.
