Welcome to The Harmony.
For the not strange introduction and/or music, skip to below.
You walk in the blackness. You can see nothing in front of you. Nothing beside you. Nothing be….you get the point. You couldn’t see your hand if you put it in front of your face. Think the forest Bilbo Baggins had to walk through. Anyways, so it’s black. All of a sudden, you hear a murmur. The first sound you’ve heard in days. Shocks the hell out of you.
You follow your ear. You make out the sound….it’s the DJ scratching of DTMD’s 95 Live. You feel comfort wash over you. You haven’t heard sounds, nor music, in what feels like eternity. All of a sudden, this smoothly transitions to the Bassnectar remix of Ellie Goulding’s Lights. Which transitions into Duke Ellington’s Take The A-Train. Then Wu-Tang Clan’s legendary C.R.E.A.M. Then Broken Social Scene’s, Lover’s Spit, to The Devil Wear Prada’s Vengeance. Woah, you think to yourself. Was Pink right? Is God really a DJ?
Let’s use this as an analogy, and pretend that I am the mystical DJ you imagine to be God in this scenario. It’s easy for us to look higher. So look up; specifically look up The Harmony, and often. Because here, our goal is to provide you with dope music, guaranteed. And guaranteed to span as many genres, styles, and be as eclectic as you’d ever want us to be.
We’re about two things. The soul, and the music.
But sometimes, we’ll also venture into world issues, politics, and technology. I personally stand before you a man who has recently lost his eighty gigabyte music collection…so this blog will very much be a revival, rediscovery, and a fresh start for all of us. We’ll have a few different writers, and you’ll be able to tell by the sign off.
This is The Harmony. Now for some music:
Open the mp3 links in a new tab.
*Charles Bradley – The World (Is Going Up In Flames). This is new soul that sounds like old soul. This song is earthy, and gooood. Think Otis Redding in the 21st century. Full album review coming soon.
*Wu Tang Clan – C.R.E.A.M. (9th Wonder Remix) | What happens when you take one of the most legendary rap songs ever recorded…then have a brilliant producer remix it? Goodness. This track is wicked, and as always, 9th Wonder puts out a great, soulful beat. mp3
DTMD – 95 Live feat. Quatermaine. Song starts off great with DJ scratching, and flows into some decent lyrical work. Worth checking out. mp3
Tarrus Riley – She’s Royal | From the infectious opening of the horns, this song is one to play on a rainy to cheer anyone up. mp3
*Broken Social Scene – Lover’s Spit | Broken Social Scene are a Canadian indie supergroup. This song is from their B-side album Bee Hives. This alternate take features Feist on vocals.mp3
Jens Lekman – A Postcard To Nina | Jens Lekman is a Swedish singer songwriter who writes wonderful songs often with poignant and funny lyrics about love and life. This song in particular is about him pretending to be the boyfriend of the girl he likes so that her parent’s dont find out she’s lesbian – and is based on a true story. mp3
*Capital Cities – Safe and Sound | This is pretty much a perfect song, and probably has the catchiest horn/synth line ever.mp3
Justice – Helix | Ahhhhh Justice. Those fellas that came out with a lead single, without album artwork, nor even a name for their album. But Civilization was brilliant. And Helix is wicked. It’s going to be a great album. <a title=”Justice – Helix” mp3
Ellie Goulding – Lights (Bassnectar Remix) | Ellie Goulding has blown up recently for making great electropop, and has gained a large devoted fan base for it. Her music has also produced some awesome remixes, this, and the following Jakwob remix included. mp3
Elie Goulding – Under The Sheets (Jakwob Remix) | Awesome song. mp3
SebastiAn, Mayer Hawthorne – Love In Motion feat. Mayer Hawthorne (Skrillex’s Funkt-Out Mix) | New Skrillex. A great hybrid between fun dance and gnarly twists. <a title=”SebastiAn, Mayer Hawthorne – Love In Motion feat. Mayer Hawthorne (Skrillex’s Funkt-Out Mix)” mp3
David Guetta & Snoop Dogg – Sweat (David Guetta & Afrojack Dub Mix) mp3
Kap Slap – Strobe Lights 2 Ibiza (Club Mix) | Kap Slap has started to make a name for himself recently for creating great mashups that flow. This one is perfect for raging and/or your next house party, while the next one is perfect for the dubstep heads. mp3
Kap Slap – E.T. Feels Starry Eyed (Club Mix) mp3
Devil Wears Prada – R.I.T. | Fantastic album, full review coming soon. (Full Album Review Coming.) mp3
Duke Ellington – Summertime | This is the legendary Duke Ellington’s take on George Gershwin’s Summertime. With the North America’s getting colder, this is a great track to keep you warm. mp3
Final Fantasy VII (Piano) – J-E-N-O-V-A | From Final Fantasy 7. Piano version. This is a wicked piece of playing. Let’s nerd out. mp3
Project Majestic – Anxious Heart | Also from Final Fantasy 7. Chilll track. mp3
In the future, you can expect….
We have lots of great things planned. Artist features, album reviews, and the following themed posts:
– Best Anti War Songs Ever Written
– What actually is dubstep?
– Best intros of all time
– Canadian Indie Feature
– American Indie Feature
– What’s the root of terrorism? (The Harmony goes serious.)
– Rap and hip hop – the difference.
– Pop Culture and the Middlebrow Part 1 – Is Lil Wayne actually bad, or actually great?
– Pop Culture Part 2 – Why Frank Sinatra and Britney Spears are no different.
– Selling Out feat. the Black Eyed Peas.
Side note: As I had mentioned Pink’s God Is A DJ earlier, I wanted to include the DINOSAVRVS REX Foray Into Professional Wrestling Remix, to Pink’s So What. However, I no longer have a copy of this song. To prove you’re an internet guru, and for twenty Harmony brownie points, see if you can find a copy of the song! We will be impressed.
Enjoy. If you like a track that we post, go and support the artist.
We also want to include at least one global track in each real post – here that gets covered by Final Fantasy, Jens Lekman, Tarrus Riley, even Justice. But we will have tracks in foreign languages.
